Complete Rules & Guidelines
These rules are the backbone of the community. They are written in full detail with examples so that no one can claim confusion or loopholes. Please read carefully before participating.1. Community Conduct
1.1 Respect at all times.Treat all members fairly and kindly. Insults, slurs, or personal attacks are never acceptable.
- Example: Saying "Your writing style is hard to follow" is okay if framed as constructive feedback. Saying "You're a terrible writer, I don't want to RP with you" is harassment.
Do not allow in-character (IC) conflict to spill into out-of-character (OOC) hostility. Likewise, don't pressure OOC friendships to influence IC outcomes.
- Example: If your character is a Caelvain soldier who hates Aldemere mages, that does not mean you dislike the player of an Aldemere character.
If another player asks you to stop a behavior (jokes, DMs, RP style), respect that immediately.
1.4 Private conduct applies.
Harassment via PMs, Discord, or other linked platforms will be treated as if it happened on-site.
1.5 Conflict resolution.
If disagreements arise, resolve privately first. If unresolved, contact staff. Public "call-out" posts are forbidden.
1.6 Age requirement.
You must be 16+ to participate.
2. Accounts & Profiles
2.1 Account system. You must use character sub-accounts to post in the in-character roleplay areas of the site.
2.2 Naming.
Character accounts must use IC names (e.g., Adara Veyrish, not xXFlameDuelistXx). OOC accounts must be appropriate and readable.
2.3 Avatars.
Keep images PG-16. No pornography, gore, or political symbols.
2.4 Faceclaims.
Realistic art, face models, or stylized art are acceptable. If using fan art, credit the artist. If a claim is taken, don't reuse without permission.
2.5 Signatures.
Maximum height [150–200px]. No autoplaying music, flashing images, or walls of text.
2.6 Profile requirements.
All profile fields (character name, faction, Arcana, etc.) must be completed before approval.
3. Writing & Posting
3.1 Word count.Aim for at least one solid paragraph (5–7 sentences). Enough to move the scene forward. One-liners are only permitted for solo journals or rapid event threads.
3.2 Grammar & clarity.
Your writing doesn't need to be perfect, but it must be clear. Occasional typos are fine; unreadable posts are not.
3.3 Formatting.
Posts must be readable on all forum themes. Templates are allowed but should not hide text. Avoid neon colors on dark themes.
- Example: White text on white backgrounds = unreadable.
Do not double-post except to:
- Continue a solo chronicle.
- Bump an ad/plot thread after 3 days.
Be courteous. If you cannot reply for 2 weeks, notify your partners. Threads without posts for 30 days may be archived.
3.6 Editing.
Do not retroactively change posts in ways that alter outcomes after someone has replied, unless all players agree.
4. Roleplay Etiquette
4.1 Godmodding. You cannot control another character without permission.
- Bad: "She stabbed him in the chest, killing him instantly."
- Good: "She lunged, aiming her blade at his chest in a deadly strike."
Characters must have limitations. Don't dodge every attack or succeed at every skill.
- Example: A mage might fail to cast if distracted; a warrior may be injured even if skilled.
Characters cannot use OOC knowledge.
- Example: You read in a profile that another character has a secret Arcana. Your character cannot "magically" know this unless it's revealed in-game.
Major consequences (maiming, death, permanent loss) require OOC consent. Staff may void such outcomes if forced on a player.
4.5 Cooperative focus.
This forum is collaborative storytelling, not a contest. Your post should leave hooks for others to respond.
4.6 Turn order.
Unless otherwise agreed, maintain posting order. Skipping without permission is unfair.
5. Content & Rating
5.1 Rating. This forum is rated [PG-16 / 3-3-3]. Mature themes (violence, swearing, suggestive content) are allowed, but explicit sexual material is not.
5.2 Fade to black.
Sexual intimacy and extreme violence must fade out before becoming explicit.
5.3 Prohibited content.
Absolutely no: sexual violence, incest, pedophilia, bestiality, or detailed torture.
5.4 Trigger warnings.
Use [TW: topic] in the title for sensitive material (e.g., abuse, suicide, gore).
5.5 Minors.
No sexual content involving under-18 characters, even aged-up or implied.
6. Character Creation
6.1 Submissions. All new characters must be posted in Character Submissions using the provided template. Staff review is required before play.
6.2 Starting Arcana.
Characters begin with one Arcana (Major or Minor). Additional Arcana may be earned through roleplay milestones and staff approval.
6.3 Balance.
Characters must have flaws and vulnerabilities. Overpowered characters will not be approved.
6.4 Multiples.
Players may create multiple characters once their first is active. Neglected or abandoned characters may result in restrictions.
6.5 NPCs.
- Minor NPCs (shopkeepers, guards) may be written freely.
- Major NPCs (recurring allies, leaders, guildmasters) must be submitted for staff approval.
6.6 Revision process.
Staff may request edits to keep characters balanced and lore-consistent.
7. Lore & Worldbuilding
7.1 Canon integrity. You may not alter official lore (timeline, cities, Arcana system) without staff approval.
7.2 Submissions.
New lore (cities, flora/fauna, guilds, etc.) must be posted in Lore Submissions. Staff will review for balance and fit.
7.3 Formatting.
Approved lore will be edited for clarity and added to the Codex.
7.4 Ownership.
Approved lore becomes shared canon. The submitting player is credited but cannot restrict others from using it.
7.5 Consistency.
New submissions must not contradict existing lore.
8. The Arcana System
8.1 Arcana maximum.Characters may possess a maximum of three Arcana. Most will remain at one.
8.2 Upright vs Reversed.
Choose one at creation. Switching requires staff approval and narrative justification.
8.3 Instability & corruption.
Conflicting Arcana can cause corruption (mental instability, physical changes, spiritual dissonance). This must be roleplayed consistently.
8.4 Interpretive nature.
Arcana are symbolic, not mechanical. Avoid turning them into rigid spells.
- Example: The Five of Wands doesn't just "shoot fire" — it stirs conflict and unrest, expressed through fire as metaphor.
Earning a second or third Arcana is rare, tied to significant trials or staff-run events. Treat it as a narrative milestone, not a power-up.
9. Roleplay Threads
9.1 Adventures.Threads for two or more characters. Use prefixes: [Open] (anyone may join) or [Closed] (invite-only).
9.2 Chronicles.
Solo threads for journals, memoirs, or self-contained narratives.
9.3 Location tags.
Include location in your title (e.g., [Caelvain] Clash at Valorspire).
9.4 Activity.
Threads inactive for 30+ days will be archived. Players may request revival.
9.5 Events.
Staff-run site-wide or faction events may include special rules. These override general rules where relevant.
9.6 Outcomes.
Major consequences (character deaths, guild collapses) require OOC agreement from all parties.
10. Out-of-Character Spaces
10.1 Plotting & Ads.Use this forum for finding partners, posting wanted ads, or pitching guild/faction stories.
10.2 Creative Workshop.
For sharing art, maps, writing, or coding templates. Always credit original creators.
10.3 General Chat.
For off-topic conversations, games, and social threads. Same conduct rules apply.
10.4 Advertising.
Outside advertising (for other sites) is permitted only in the designated forum. No unsolicited ads in IC/OOC threads.
11. Staff & Enforcement
11.1 Three-strike system.- First violation → Warning.
- Second violation → Temporary suspension.
- Third violation → Permanent ban.
Severe misconduct (harassment, hate speech, sexual misconduct) bypasses the three-strike system.
11.3 Staff authority.
Rules are guidelines, not loopholes. Staff may intervene even if something isn't explicitly listed.
11.4 Appeals.
Members may appeal moderation decisions privately to the admin team. Appeals are considered in good faith.
11.5 Transparency.
Staff will clearly state reasons for warnings or bans.
